Las Quatro Harwoods

One Year Old

OK, so its not officially until tomorrow, but I’ve got the free time right now.  I can’t believe that my little girl is turning one tomorrow.  It seems like just a few minutes ago that Robyn and I were holed up in that hospital room watching the snow cover the world outside.  Our life changed again that night as we added Josie to our family.  I remember being so excited for Maddox to come and see his new little sister and the look on his face when he first held her.  It feels good to be a dad in moments like those.

So flash forward one year and our little girl is a walking machine.  Last weekend she just decided she was finished holding on to our fingers as she toddled around and she was off.  She will surely wear a path in the hallway as she loves nothing more than walking back and forth and laughing as Maddox and Paco run by.  She’s getting very expressive these days too.  Lots of sounds and facial expressions.  She has let Maddox have it a few times when he’s taken a toy from her or something. Pretty funny.  She also loves the little red rocker.  She will crawl up in it and just sit back with a doll and smile and rock.  Sometimes she seems to just sit there and relax.  It is pretty darn cute.

Maddox is turning into a big boy these days right before our eyes.  He’s started taking over the responsibility of feeding Paco each night.  He’s trying to raise some money for the toy store.  Funny.  He’s also given up nap time.  He almost fell asleep at the dinner table tonight and there have been some rough evenings when he’s so exhausted.  He’s got a special “I’m to big for nap” box to play with at school while all the other kids in his class nap except for him and Sayra.  He’s pretty proud of that.  Apparently they sit in the loft and play and “read books” while everyone else naps.  I wish I could be a fly on the wall at his school.  He’s a great big brother.  Through all of his frustrations with her, there is no doubt in my mind that he loves Josie with everything he’s got.  Every morning he bypasses us without a blink to go straight to her and give her a good morning hug.  Cute.

So a happy birthday to my sweet Josephine. I’m looking forward to the next year and the adventures you may bring us.

I am Josie.  Hear me roar!

Loving the little red rocker.

Josie LOVES being outside and getting dirty.

Maddox made it all the way to the top.  I think he enjoyed the view.
